The Pterodactyl

"The giant wings of the steel bird came to rest in a cloud of dust and debris.


Its descent had been witnessed by thousands of men, women and children

who had watched the emerald skies for hours,

shading their eyes from the sun with upturned palms

And then it had come, a giant shadow blotting a corner of the noonday sun

like a speck in the eye

It grew monstrous by the moment

Roaring, it amassed the red soil onto itself

like a mother to her children, maker to its mold

Inhaling the land, the trees,

and then

its body gleaming with the wetness of heaven itself

the taste of clouds and stardust

and vast endless space

flattened into the minutest creases

of its armadillo armor

of the giant steel pterodactyl coming to a shuddering silence.

Like the tell-tale trail of the comet's tail
 that’s left when a piece of ash
is flicked off a crisp white page,
thats the feeling
of a fleeting
moment
of inspiration.
